A Good Idea
Description
More then 60 years after its birth as an exhibit at the 1939 New York World's Fair, the Queens Botanical Garden continues to offer public and educational programs in its rose, bee, herb, and perennial gardens. A wide range of available workshops include vermiculture for grades 3 and up, and ethnobotany forums for adults. QBG is a participant in the NYC Compost Project. The Garden also hosts a weekly farmers market, as well as special holiday and cultural events.
Goal / Mission
The Queens Botanical Garden, a living museum serving the most ethnically diverse county in the United States, is committed to presenting collections, education and research initiatives and programs that demonstrate environmental stewardship, promote sustainability and celebrate the rich cultural connections between people and plants.
Results / Accomplishments
-QBG is a leader in botanical and environmental education, serving area schoolchildren and educators for more than 35 years.
-QBG's Environmental Tours and Workshops encourage inquiry and are based on science curriculum, satisfying National and New York State Science Standards and helping teachers to meet New York City Performance Standards.
-QBG also offers guided tours for all ages, environmental citizenship workshops for scout troops and youth groups, summer internships for high school students, compost workshops for your community, and much more.
