Description

The goal of the Great Allegheny Passage is to provide a trail through the region spanning from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington, D.C.

The Passage runs along former railroad corridors and was developed using Transportation Enhancement awards and support from elected officials, state and federal agencies, volunteers, and trail users.

Goal / Mission

The goal of the Great Allegheny Passage is to provide hikers, bicyclists, cross-country skiers and people with disabilities with a trail through the region.

Results / Accomplishments

An economic impact study conducted by the Allegheny Trail Alliance in 1998 revealed that the direct economic impact of the trail exceeded $14 million a year. The study recorded more that 350,000 visitor trips on the trail each year with each user spending between $12 and $15.
