Description

The goal of Gilman Rec-Connect is to revitalize existing recreational activities and create new programming for youth and their families living in the Hunters and Bayview neighborhoods in San Francisco, CA.

Gilman Rec-Connect is a youth led program that promotes youth and family engagement within an inviting and safe environment while also encouraging young community residents to assume responsibility for community development. A Youth Steering Team, guided by the Program Director, works to come to a consensus and make responsible decisions about all programming, events, and activities. In addition, an annual community needs assessment is conducted to ensure that their programming remains responsive to community needs.

Gilman Rec-Connect provides the following activities: basketball, Tree Frog Treks, sports, cooking classes, weight training, yoga, movie nights, arts and crafts, dance class, barbecues/picnics, and many more.

The goal of Gilman Rec-Connect is to revitalize existing recreational activities and create new programming for youth and their families.

Results / Accomplishments

Gilman Rec-Connect reaches 7,000 children and youth through special events, multi-session classes and drop-in activities each year.
