Partnership for Permanent Housing

A Good Idea

Description

The Partnership for Permanent Housing (PPH) in Montgomery County, Maryland is a collaborative initiative providing permanent housing for families using project-based housing vouchers and intensive case management. The program began in spring 2003. Consistent with a "housing first" model, PPH moves families from motels or emergency shelters into permanent housing. The Housing Opportunities Commission, the local public housing authority, awards Housing Choice Vouchers to a community-based nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization, the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless, administers the program and provides additional case management and housing placement assistance.

Goal / Mission

The goal of this program is to end homelessness for families by combining the case management component of transitional programs with quicker access to permanent housing.

Results / Accomplishments

PPH is currently serving 26 families. The 50 vouchers available to the program should be utilized by the fall of 2004.
