Age-Adjusted Death Rate due to Unintentional Drowning

County: McCormick
Measurement Period: 2013-2015
This indicator shows the age-adjusted death rate per 100,000 population due to unintentional drownings.

Why is this important?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about ten people die each day from unintentional drowning. About one in five people who die from drowning are children aged 14 or younger. Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury in the United States. The main factors that affect drowning risk are lack of swimming ability, lack of barriers to prevent unsupervised water access, lack of close supervision while swimming, location, failure to wear life jackets, alcohol use, and seizure disorders.
