Women and Work

A Good Idea

Description

The Women and Work project was formed to address inequalities of occupational segregation between men and women in the U.S. workforce by increasing occupational choice, opportunity and resources for women in non-traditional occupations (NTO) through policy and programmatic initiatives. It seeks to reduce the wage gap that creates economic security disadvantages for women who do not have access to NTO jobs.

Goal / Mission

The Women and Work project works to build women’s equity and increase women's economic security by expanding their occupational choices.

Impact

The Women and Work project increases resources and opportunities for women in non-traditional jobs through a variety of policy and programmatic initiatives.

Results / Accomplishments

In 2010, WOW expanded its models to create a portfolio of tools that includes the Basic Economic Security Tables™ Index (BEST)- a contemporary measure of the income and assets workers require for economic security across the lifespan. The Economic Security Institute (ESI) supports progressive research and advocacy agendas by promoting the discussion, definition, measurement and advocacy of economic security. The Institute’s collection of research and advocacy resources helps advocates, policy makers, researchers, practitioners and others employ an economic security framework in their efforts to help workers, families and elders build better lives.
