Project Youth Green

A Good Idea

Description

Project Youth Green is a four acre community revitalization project that focuses on youth education, community gardening and physical exercise. Project Youth Green targets low-income youth and families who have no access to green space, fruits and vegtables or hands-on educational opportunities. The program provides a community garden space and an area for family gardening. Families have their own plot of land to grow fresh fruits and vegetables; and in addition, they have access to nutritional information in order to make fresh produce a sustainable part of their diet. The focus is to create a garden and activity space that promotes a healthy lifestyle. The garden serves to satisfy nutritional needs, as well as provide a learning space for all participants.

Goal / Mission

The Project Youth Green project is a community garden project that aims to involve families and youth in learning about local, sustainable food and gardening projects. The four acre community revitalization project focuses on youth education, community gardening and physical exercise.

Results / Accomplishments

Project Youth Green has created a community garden with 2 acres devoted to the Learning Garden and another 2 acres devoted to a 60-plot family gardening area. The program has involved many individuals and local families.
