Children’s Health Fund

A Good Idea

Description

The Children’s Health Fund (CHF) develops and supports a National Network of 23 pediatric programs and two affiliates in 16 states and the District of Columbia. The programs are located in some of the nation’s most disadvantaged urban and rural communities, and serve medically underserved children. The Fund utilizes an enhanced medical home model, which integrates intensive primary care, mental health and oral health services through the use of mobile clinics, school-based clinics and telehealth. In addition, the Fund educates the public about the healthcare needs and access barriers experienced by disadvantaged children.

CHF is supported by contributions from foundations, corporations, and individuals, along with revenue from special events and government grants.

Goal / Mission

The Children’s Health Fund’s mission is to provide health care to the nation's most medically underserved children through the development and support of primary care medical programs. The fund also responds to public health crises and works to promote access to health care for all children.

Impact

Children's Health Fund provides medical, dental, and mental health care to approximately 83,000 low-income and homeless children and their family members each year through mobile medical clinics.

Results / Accomplishments

Approximately 83,000 low-income and homeless children and family members are served annually by CHF mobile medical unites nationwide. 50 mobile clinics deliver medical, dental, and mental health care to 216 schools, family shelters, and other community organizations. In addition, CHF provides community health care training to medical and nursing students and other health professionals, and advocates for policies and programs which will ensure access to medical homes that provide comprehensive and continuous health care for all children.
