Health House

An Effective Practice

Description

The American Lung Association Health House program is a reliable resource for consumers and builders wanting to learn how to build and maintain healthier homes. Consumers can turn to Health House to provide information about all their indoor air quality concerns. Resources such as tip sheets help people identify and reduce pollutants in their homes. Builders can get training in how to meet the ALA's Health House Guidelines, the most stringent building standards in the U.S. Registered builders stand apart from their competitors because they have gone through an extensive training program and have built at least one home that passed our independent inspections and testing.

Goal / Mission

The goal of this program is to improve indoor air quality and energy efficiency.

Results / Accomplishments

ALA's Health House Project is the first nationwide program to provide consumers with a standard building practice and verification of a home's performance relating to the minimization of indoor air pollution sources and energy consumption. Many homes have been built using the Health House Guidelines, including the first "Health House Community" to be built in California, the 71-unit Sierra Valley Oaks development in Rocklin. Other Health House communities are in development.
